COVID-19

Greetings Family Members of Christ Lutheran,

This upcoming Sunday, we’re going to be gathering… differently. We realize this change will bring up a lot of questions. The following is our effort to address these questions.

Why this change?

This past week, the leaders of our local, state, and federal government banned gatherings of 10 or more people. We are going to respect the professionals, love the vulnerable people in our community, and continue gathering as people of God by meeting virtually (i.e. internet video).

We feel like this is an opportunity from God:

This past Wednesday CLC’s council met to discuss our response as a congregation to COVID-19. We all mourn the ways in which this pandemic is impacting the health and economy of our community, and the suspension of in-person gatherings. Lord, have mercy!

And yet, the predominant sentiment of the council was one of excitement. Excitement for the ways the Lord will use this time to grow our communion with Him. Excitement for the ways that the Lord will use this time strengthen our church community, both within our own congregation and with other congregations in the Rocky Mountain District. Excitement for the ways that the Lord will work through this pandemic so that we are more fully able to show Christ’s compassion to the people in Summit County. Lord, may these things be done for your glory!

What is this going to look like for the weeks ahead?

We will not be gathering at the church building for any services, events, or meetings. (Even our council meeting was held via video chat.) This will be the case for several weeks, until we are advised by the CDC that it is safe to resume in-person gatherings

We will be joining the livestream of other Lutheran congregations! CLC is not equipped to livestream our worship services to internet video, and we don’t currently have the manpower or resources to change that. But other congregations along Colorado’s Front Range are. Several have been doing so for years and are quite proficient at it. Over the course of these following Sundays we will be joining the livestream of these congregations.

We will be meeting together as a congregation via Zoom! Zoom is an app for online video conference calls. It can be used on your smart phone, tablet, or computer. You will need to download the free app via the app store on your device. You can also join the meeting by dialing in (voice only). Here is the login information for our Zoom gathering:

Everything in our world is different today than it was a week ago. But the one thing that is not different is that God is in control. Our Lord Jesus is still ascended, ruling with all authority at the Father’s right hand. May we allow faith, not fear, to dictate our thoughts, words, and actions in these coming weeks!

God’s Peace,

Pastor Larry
